Storytelling is the oldest form
of entertainment. From ancient times, people gathered to share
stories, and delight in the spoken word. In the last three
decades there has
been a renaissance for storytelling. People have rediscovered
the oral traditions, and the art of telling a good tale.
Unlike other forms of entertainment, Storytelling is more than
an audience just sitting and listening. It becomes a truly
interactive event as each member of the audience brings their
own imagination and experiences to the story. The storyteller
provides the words; the audience fills in the images in their
own imaginations.
What is more, there is a universal yearning for a good story. In
any speech or lecture, who hasn’t perked up with interest when a
story begins? Stories awaken in us a need to connect with
others, and a tie to the people around us.
"If stories come to
you, care for them. And learn to give them away where
they are needed. Sometimes a person needs a story more
than food to stay alive." --Barry Lopez
